Kyle and Corey Michalek won the brand’s inaugural “Search for a Champion” contest in 2012 and have since carried the iconic Champion bowtie branding across the country on the sides of a 270MPH A/fuel dragster. In 2015, MBR and four Federal-Mogul Motorparts brands will once again collaborate to compete within the NHRA’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.
The MBR/Dreher Motorsports A/fuel dragster entry sponsored by the Kenan Advantage Group (KAG) and Champion Spark Plugs qualified #11 amongst a field of 21 of the nation's premier Top Alcohol Dragster drivers at the 8th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, OH. Taking place over the course of a picture-perfect 4th of July weekend, this was the team’s third NHRA national event appearance as competitors; all of which MBR has successfully advanced to eliminations.
It has only been 44 days since Michalek Brothers Racing pulled off the Summit Motorsports Park property at the conclusion of the 8th annual Mickey Mart Rewards Cavalcade of Stars race, but for brothers and teammates Kyle and Corey Michalek, it feels more like 44 years. The wait, however, comes to an end this weekend as the team, partnered with Dreher Motorsports, returns to Norwalk, Ohio alongside 24 of the best Top Alcohol Dragsters in the country to vie for the coveted Wally that is up for grabs at the 8th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals.
Just under one year ago, Kyle Michalek quickly found success in the 270 mph Top Alcohol Dragster class during the the team's debut event at the 2013 Mickey Mart Rewards Cavalcade of Stars NHRA Lucas Oil regional event at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH. The team's runner-up finish validated the partnership between Michalek Brothers Racing (MBR) and Dreher Motorsports as a legitimate contender.
Michalek Brothers Racing completed a dream weekend April 11-13 during the 5th annual NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, North Carolina by picking up the event win in the Top Alcohol Dragster class. Rookie driver Corey Michalek piloted the Champion Spark Plugs A/fuel dragster, prepared by Dreher Motorsports, all the way to the winner’s circle in his competition debut.

Michalek Brothers Racing's (MBR) 2013 season behind the wheel of the Dreher Motorsports A/fuel dragster, albeit brief, was one to remember. Coming out of nowhere, then rookie driver Kyle Michalek qualified #2 and finished runner-up at the team's very first NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in an A/fuel dragster; the NHRA's fastest form of semi-professional competition. Fast forward to July and Kyle went on to make a splash in MBR's NHRA national event debut by successfully qualifying for the field of 16 and gaining the team's first national exposure on the ESPN2 race broadcast. The season wrapped up with test sessions in August and October at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis when Corey Michalek upgraded his competition license to A/fuel, and closed out 2013 with a 5.55 second blast at over 261mph to set himself up for a 2014 debut.

In late August of the 2013 NHRA season, Corey Michalek began his A/fuel dragster licensing process during the annual U.S. Nationals test session at Lucas Oil Raceway Park in Indianapolis. Behind the wheel of the Dreher Motorsports dragster, and under the tutelage of Randy and Jared Dreher, Corey made 5 runs and ran his first 5 second pass at over 244 MPH to complete all but one of the required license upgrade runs at this time.
The 2014 Search for a Champion contest returns to www.AlwaysAChampion.com on Nov. 1, 2013! Now in its third year, the popular Web-based competition will offer 15 $5,000 Champion racing sponsorships and one $50,000 Search for a Champion grand-prize sponsorship. Kyle Michalek Races the Champion Spark Plugs Dragster to Runner-Up Finish in NHRA A/fuel Dragster Debut
Rookie driver Kyle Michalek and the Dreher Motorsports team wasted no time in setting the pace for a break out debut weekend. Kyle went to the top of the class on Friday night during Q1 with a time of 5.398 seconds @ 259.86 MPH which was good enough to put him in the #2 qualifying position. This strong performance was indicative of what was to come for the remainder of the race weekend.
Day one of racing at the 7th anniversary of the Mickey Mart Rewards Cavalcade of Stars in Norwalk, Ohio is officially in the books. Michalek Brothers Racing's Kyle kept the Champion Spark Plugs A/fuel dragster straight and true down the groove in his lone run of the day and guided it to the provisional #2 qualifying position with a stout 5.398 second pass at just under 260mph.
