Michalek Brothers Racing has Successful Debut in Indianapolis

After sitting idle for over two years to build an A/fuel dragster operation from nearly the ground up, Michalek Brothers Racing (MBR) turned in a passing performance in their first weekend back on track in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.

Michalek Brothers Racing debuted their 2010 Spitzer chassis A/fuel dragster at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Summer Shootout in Indianapolis, IN.

MBR pulled to the starting line on three occasions throughout the course of the weekend and the team turned in a best lap of 5.553 seconds at 247.84mph; numbers that were good enough for the 10th qualifying position, missing out on the 8 car field that competed in Sunday’s eliminations. Keeping everything in perspective, Corey Michalek commented optimistically about the results of the weekend.

“All things considered, we’re very happy with how the weekend went,” said Corey. “I mentioned before the race that we really had the odds stacked against us since we were unable to test before heading to Indy. The fact that we were able to make full runs the two times that we planned to take it to the finish line is very encouraging. While the final results that came up on the scoreboard aren’t what we’re looking for yet, the early incremental numbers have a lot of promise. We have an issue with dropping cylinders down track that we’re working to address right now, but for the most part the car is happy and it responded to the majority of the changes we asked it to. Those small victories this early in the game are really exciting for us. Things are tough out of the gate because we only have a very small sample size of run data to pull from currently, but we now have a baseline and that’s something that we didn’t have before this weekend.”

“Kyle and I can’t thank Clay and Chase Copeland enough for their guidance and input throughout this process. Special thanks also goes to Cory Cox, Doug Kotter, and John Michalek for their assistance getting the car ready throughout the weekend. We’ve got a great team and we can’t wait to get back out there.”

Team co-owner, Kyle Michalek, also expressed excitement about MBR’s inaugural event with their new car.

“After all the time, money, and effort put towards getting our operation up and running, it felt really good to finally see the car launch off the starting line and charge down the track,” said Kyle. “We knew this weekend was going to be a test session within a race, and the primary focus was gathering info on the car and setup. We still have work to do, but we know we have a capable platform to build on and a solid team to get the job done. We are very thankful for all the support we received leading up to the race and during the weekend from family, friends, and other Top Alcohol teams. I am encouraged by the progress we made this weekend and can’t wait to be back at the track next month to pick up where we left off.”

Michalek Brothers Racing returns to action the weekend of September 15-17 for its first stop at the NHRA Carolina Nationals in Charlotte, NC.
