Michalek Brothers Racing Looks to Close Out 2017 on a High Note

To compete in first National Event as Car Owners

The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) returns to North Carolina this weekend for its annual stop at Bruton Smith’s spectacular zMAX Dragway (GET DIRECTIONS) facility, and Michalek Brothers Racing (MBR) is set to roll out the Champion Auto Parts sponsored entry for the first time in NHRA National Event competition.

Michalek Brothers Racing returns to Charlotte to close out their debut season as NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster owners. MBR took home the 2014 NHRA Four Wide Nationals event title in Corey Michalek’s debut race.

With the drag racing world shifting its attention to the start of the NHRA Countdown to the Championship, MBR returns to the Tar Heel state looking to make continued progress with the team’s recently debuted 2010 Spitzer chassis A/fuel dragster. Just over 4 weeks removed from a satisfactory debut in Indianapolis, team co-owner Corey Michalek is eager to return to the track where he picked up a National Event win at in his first ever race in Top Alcohol Dragster competition.

“At the end of the day, we called our first outing in Indianapolis a success because that was our first time ever dragging the car to the starting line and it showed glimpses of competitiveness,” said Corey. “We were able to diagnose some issues with the car during its maiden runs and we’ve been working to remedy them since we returned home. It’s an understatement to say that we’re eager to get back on track this weekend.”

“The caveat to everything is the fact that we’re extremely competitive, and it was a bitter pill to swallow not making the field in Indianapolis. We race to win. We don’t race to hope we do well. We don’t race to have a nice looking car. We race to win. Point blank, the expectations are significantly higher this time around.”

Relive MBR’s historical first Top Alcohol Dragster win at the 5th annual NHRA 4-Wide Nationals.

In two Charlotte starts, MBR has left the zMAX Dragway facility on a high with a win at the 2014 NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, and a low with a disappointing first round loss where the team was unable to attempt a run due to mechanical issues at the following year’s event. MBR’s Kyle Michalek hopes to swing the momentum back in the positive direction as the team heads south to compete in just their second race as car owners.

Champion Auto Parts will once again adorn the side of the MBR’s 4,500 horsepower A/fuel dragster entry in Charlotte.

“Frederick Douglass once said, “without a struggle, there can be no progress;” no doubt it has been a struggle getting to this point, but we are definitely making progress,” said Kyle. “I am looking forward to learning more about the car and the setup this weekend so we can take that information into the off season and begin making preparations to hit the ground running next year. But before we start thinking about next year, we want to have some fun and look forward to mixing it up with the competition in Charlotte!”

Michalek Brothers Racing will again be representing the Champion Auto Parts brand for the third time in Charlotte along with additional support from Fel-Pro, Speed-Pro, Sealed Power, Hogan’s Racing Manifolds, Simpson Race Products, and Valvoline.

The team kicks off its weekend this Friday with 2 early qualifying runs at 11:00AM and 1:00PM. Action resumes on Saturday afternoon when the Champion Auto Parts A/fuel dragster makes its third and final qualifying pass at 10:30AM, followed in the evening by the first round of eliminations at 5:15PM. The 8 remaining Top Alcohol Dragsters will then square off for the final 3 rounds of eliminations with a Wally on the line on Sunday at 1:20PM, 3:00PM, and 4:15PM. Reserved and general admission tickets are on sale and can be purchased here (GET TICKETS).
